A self-taught photographer, Brendan developed a passionate flair at an early age for the art of capturing nature’s essence and beauty.
Starting out as a hobby at 18 years of age and equiped with a Pentax K1000 SLR, his love for the outdoor lifestyle grew, along with his ability to seek out unique and reflective images.
After brief stints studying Business Tourism and in the 9 to 5 workforce as a bank clerk, Brendan succumbed to the lure of new horizons, when he left his home town of Swan Hill, Victoria in 1994 and travelled central and eastern Australia for six months, before eventually settling in Rainbow Beach, Queensland.
It was here his full time career as a landscape and wildlife photographer began. Since then, he has co-owned several galleries in Rainbow Beach, Peregian Beach and finally as a solo artist in Noosa, where he lived until 2003 with his wife and business partner, Sally.
Brendan managed a successful market stall for 9 years at the famous Eumundi Markets located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. With a broad range of other local, interstate and overseas commercial outlets, Brendan’s photography has been sent worldwide, including the UK, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Europe, Japan and China.
The end of 2003 brought big changes as Brendan and Sally embarked on a year-long working stint in Europe starting in the ski resort town of Meribel in the French Alps. This trip also took them to England, Greece, Italy and Spain. Returning to Australia at the end of 2004, Brendan relocated his business to Melbourne and more recently to Ocean Grove where he now resides with Sally, daughter Abbey and son Harvey.
“My photography is my life and it has evolved into a perfect blend of business, pleasure and creativity – living in such a beautiful part of the world, it’s easy to find inspiration every time I look out the window”. – Brendan Waites.
